AMANTA UPE

After a good day at church, three of our friends (Ieva, Inese, Agris) took us on an excursion to the Amanata Upe. This river is about 30 minutes from where we live. The snow has just about completely melted which has caused high water and flooding in some areas. This makes for  some good river running and there were plenty of people on the Amanta.

The river had actually dropped a few feet from earlier in the week but there were still plenty of rapids, white water and hidden granite boulders to cause trouble. The water temperature was about 3-4 C (around 35 degrees Fahrenheit) and we saw quite a few people go into the water.

Our church is planning a rafting excursion late in the summer. I'm hoping the water will be warmer and a bit smoother by then but the rivers in Latvia are beautiful year-round.
