SUNDAY IN CESIS

The second wave of the FBC-Athens team made it safe and sound into Cesis on Saturday night. We attended church services with the Cesis Baptist Church at 2:00pm. Chase Bowers (our evangelist) gave a short message and Steve Gowan and his group (Jessica Leatherwood, Mattie Griffin, Steve Akin and Adri Jones) sang beautifully for the congregation.

After church, we went to a very old Lutheran church (built in 1225) for a concert of music and choir numbers. Violins, flutes, accordians, upright bass, keyboards, guitars and piano provided outstanding musical entertainment. The church sits very close to a large lake that they are currently unearthing a very old village in an archaelogical dig. It is about 15-minutes from Cesis in a very small community. Great music in a great, old, traditional church.

After the concert, we returned to Cesis for a fellowship and light meal provided by the women of the Cesis church. Lots of fresh fruit (cherries, etc.) and home-baked pastries. They go out of their way to always provide Coca-Cola for us as they think it is our national drink.

We have met and made our final plans for the Sports Camps. They start in the morning at 9:00 for our junior camp (ages 8-12). At 5:00pm the older camp starts and we will finish the day off with a Youth Celebration from 7:30--9:00pm. We are anxious to see our many friends from the previous years' camps.

Our young team-members have done a great job adjusting to the time change and seem to be fitting in well with our Latvian friends. We hope they will continue to form the important relationships.

The pictures on the blog today are from the service at Cesis Baptist Church and at the concert in Areseli.
